ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS~ORAL GALVINISM |
Metals in the mouth can cause Electrical Problems within the human body.
|
| When you put two different metals together in a solution,
such as mercury amalgams and saliva, electrical current
is generated. Basically, the metals in this solution act as
a battery. This process has been termed electrogalvanism.
Even though the amount of electricity is quite small, you
must consider that the nervous system of the human body
is managed by very small amounts of electrical current.

| Dissimilar metals in a solution, such as saliva, will create an electrical current. This is termed electrogalvanism or Oral Galvinism. |
|
There are five different metals inside each mercury amalgam filling. Therefore, it is possible for an electrical current to be generated by these metals in the mercury amalgam filling because it is in contact with saliva. This additional current may interfere with the normal energy pathways in our bodies.
It all has to do with threshold. One person can handle a lot more than another.
Electrogalvanism occurs at a higher rate when a variety of metals are present in the mouth. For example, mixing mercury amalgam filings with gold alloy crowns, non-precious alloy crowns or even a partial denture that is made of metal can react and create this electrical battery effect in the mouth: Oral Galvinism.
Potential problems with electrogalvanism is another reason we do not use any metal in the dental crowns made at our practice. Oral Galvinism and the reactions they generate can increase the release of mercury from amalgam fillings into the body.
The problem is that we do not know how much Electrogalvanism is too much, or what the accumulated affect of Oral Galvinism has on an individual over their entire lifetime.
